Bungee cord is an elastic cord built from a latex rubber core wrapped in a braided textile sheath — you'll also hear it called shock cord or elastic cord. Same product. We've been twisting and braiding cords in our Jaipur factory for over 20 years, and shock cord runs on our machines every single week.
Google search data (July 2026) shows 40,500 monthly searches for bungee cord in the USA alone, with demand peaking May through August and again in October-November. That's tarps, kayaks, cargo nets, trampolines and truck beds. Most of those buyers are served by hardware chains — and hardware chains mark shock cord up heavily.

What separates good shock cord from cheap shock cord?
The core is rarely the problem. Latex is latex — it stretches, it recovers, job done. The sheath is where cords live or die (the core almost never fails first — this surprises most buyers). A polyester braid holds its colour and shrugs off sunlight. Polypropylene costs less but chalks and weakens outdoors unless it's properly UV-stabilised.
When a bungee goes fuzzy and snaps on a truck bed after one summer, that's a thin sheath. Not bad rubber.
So when you compare quotes, don't compare per-meter price. Compare the sheath: fibre type, braid density, UV treatment. We braid in-house on our own machines, which means we control all three instead of taking whatever a subcontractor sends.
Why buy bungee cord factory-direct instead of through a trader?

Which sizes and formats do we make?
We run bungee cord from 3mm to 12mm diameter:
- 3-5mm — light duty: garments, banners, stationery, DIY kits
- 6-8mm — general purpose: tarps, luggage, camping, bicycle racks
- 10-12mm — heavy duty: cargo nets, marine covers, trailers
Two formats. Continuous rolls for converters who cut and assemble themselves, or finished cut lengths with hooks fitted on our own tipping line. Dyeing happens in-house too, so a custom colour isn't a special request — it's a Tuesday.
MOQ is 100 meters per SKU, low enough to trial three diameters in one shipment. Air courier reaches the US or EU in 7-10 days; sea freight runs 25-40 days.
